Calamvale does not get the attention some of Brisbane’s inner suburbs do, and the people who live there seem happy to keep it that way. Sitting about 16 kilometres south of the CBD, it has quietly become one of the south side’s most liveable pockets for families who want space, good schools, and an easy run into the city without paying inner-city prices.

A suburb built for families
Calamvale is green, roomy, and residential. Streets are wide, blocks are generous, and a lot of the housing is newer than you will find closer to town, so you get modern homes without the knock-down-rebuild premium. Calamvale District Park is the local favourite for weekend cricket, dog walks, and letting the kids run, and there are smaller parks dotted right through the suburb.
Families move here for the schools as much as anything. Calamvale Community College covers prep right through to year twelve on one campus, and there are several primary options and childcare centres within a short drive.
Shops, food, and getting around
You are spoilt for everyday shopping. Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown and the wider Sunnybank food scene are minutes away, which means some of the best Asian food in Brisbane is practically on your doorstep. For the weekly shop, Calamvale Central covers the basics without a trek.
Commuting is straightforward. The Gateway and Logan motorways are both close, so the CBD is roughly a 25 to 30 minute drive outside peak, and bus routes run through the suburb if you would rather not drive.
Before you buy: get the place checked
If you are still house hunting in Calamvale, the smartest money you will spend before signing is on a proper inspection. If you want a family-friendly, well-connected suburb with room to breathe and genuinely good food nearby, Calamvale is hard to fault. It is not flashy, but for a lot of people moving to Brisbane’s south, that is exactly the point.
