One of the questions new arrivals to Brisbane ask first is: who do I call when something goes wrong with the house? After moving from another city, the network of “I know a guy” trusted tradies disappears, and finding decent local replacements without going through the trial-and-error of two or three duds is genuinely hard.
This is our running list of Brisbane-area tradies and businesses we have come to trust. We do not take referral fees from any of them. They are listed because the work is consistently good, the pricing is fair, and they show up when they say they will.
Plumbing — Creek to Coast Plumbing
Based in Caboolture, covering Moreton Bay through to the lower Sunshine Coast and across the north Brisbane corridor. Creek to Coast Plumbing handles general plumbing, gas fitting, hot water, blocked drains, and stormwater drainage. They are particularly good at the older Queenslander-on-stilts plumbing problems — clay pipes, tree-root infiltration, dodgy original gas runs that need replacing — that newer plumbers sometimes look at and shrug.
Family-run, on call 24/7, fixed-price quotes upfront. Worth knowing if you are buying anywhere from Caboolture down through North Lakes and the inner north suburbs.
Building inspection — Zoom Building & Pest
If you are buying property anywhere in Brisbane, the building and pest inspection is the single most important $700 you will spend. Zoom Building & Pest Inspections is one of the better operators we have come across — fully licensed, comprehensive reports delivered within 24 hours, and same-week availability across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
What sets a thorough inspector apart from a tick-the-box one is whether they actually run systems during the inspection — turn on the aircon, flush the toilets, check the hot water — and whether they explain what they found in plain English. Zoom does both. They also handle commercial inspections and pool safety certificates if you need them.
Building certification — A1 Certifier
If you are renovating, building new, or buying a property where you need to confirm the work was certified, you will end up dealing with a building certifier. A1 Certifier handles building approvals, inspections, and certification across Brisbane, Redlands, Ipswich, Logan, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast.
A private certifier means faster approvals than going through council and direct communication with the certifier rather than queue-based council channels. They also issue pool compliance certificates if you are selling a property with a pool.
Custom home building — Iconic Homes & Construction
If you are doing a knockdown rebuild, building a custom home from scratch, or developing a duplex on a Redlands or Bayside block, Iconic Homes and Construction is the builder we point people toward. Brent and Steve between them have over 70 years of building experience, the work is consistently high-quality, and they will tell you straight if your design is going to cost more than your budget allows.
They are not the cheapest builder in Brisbane — they are also not project home builders. If you want a custom home built carefully and to a standard you can see in the finishes, they fit the brief. Based in the Redlands, working across Brisbane and Bayside.
Bathroom renovation & tiling — Brisbane’s Best Tilers
For bathroom renovations and tiling work, Brisbane’s Best Tilers and Bathroom Renovations is worth knowing. Luke (the director) is a QBCC-licensed builder, tiler, and waterproofer — which is unusual. Most tilers are tilers, most builders are builders. Having both licences means he can manage the full bathroom reno scope without subcontracting half of it out.
Wall and floor tiling, full bathroom renos, waterproofing to Australian Standards. Brisbane-wide.
Painting — Barton’s Painting & Decorating
For house painting, roof painting, and deck restoration in the Redlands and South Brisbane, Barton’s Painting and Decorating are reliable. QBCC licensed, family-owned since 2015, no subcontractors. Interior, exterior, roof painting, timber deck restoration, and the kind of careful prep work that makes a paint job actually last in Queensland conditions.
Builders for new homes and major renovations
If you are building a new home or planning a major renovation in Brisbane, Iconic Homes and Construction is one of the local custom builders worth knowing about. They run trade coordination in-house — meaning the cabinet maker, plumber, electrician and tiler hit their dates without you chasing — which is the difference between a six-month build that finishes on time and one that drags into year two.
If you are repainting after settlement, doing rental property turnover work, or refreshing exterior paint that has copped a few years of Queensland sun, they are a good first call.
How we vet who goes on this list
We only list businesses where:
- The work is genuinely good across multiple jobs we have seen or heard about
- Pricing is fair and transparent (fixed quotes upfront, no surprise extras)
- They are licensed and insured for the work they do
- They turn up when they say they will
- They handle problems professionally rather than leaving customers hanging
This list will grow as we vet more businesses across other trades — electricians, gardeners, removalists, cleaners, and the rest. If you have had a great experience with a Brisbane tradie not on this list, let us know.
If you have had a bad experience with someone we have listed, also let us know. The list updates based on what is actually happening, not on who pays us (nobody does).
